Movie’s vs. Internet

For many years, it has been tradition that people would go to a theatre in order to watch a newly released movie with friends or family. Over time, people have begun renting movies to watch in the comfort of your own home. Now, through the use of Internet, more people are beginning to watch movies online through websites such as Netflix. Watching movies on the Internet will become more popular in the future, especially for our generation, because it’s cost effective. The Internet is changing the way our world is functioning, and the market has to evolve with our generation. Over time, if the market does not evolve or change its prices, it may cause theatres to shut down (like the one’s that can’t view digital films), and movie productions to lose money. (Hurley, 2012) The process involved behind producing a movie will drastically change in the future in order to become more responsive to Internet users (this may include online theatres, online movie productions/filming, and much more). Ultimately, there is no experience like watching a movie on a large screen while eating movie theatre popcorn, however, the change in the market is inevitable unless they come up with an attractive proposition for our society such as the Imax experience.

Movie Promotions Through Social Media

Today’s society has revolved heavily around the use of social media to relay information to the world. Since the invention of Facebook and Twitter, many people have created accounts on these social media sights to stay connected. A majority of celebrities have also created twitter accounts and use it as a means of relaying information to their fans. An extremely popular use for twitter recently has been for celebrities to promote their movies. Due to the extremely large database, and the free cost of having an account, this becomes a cost effective means of promoting movies. Now one may think, “what if a majority of people do not follow celebrities, how would their messages be relayed to the public?” Gratefully, twitter creators have thought of an invention to help release information through the use of ‘re-tweeting’. If someone does not follow a celebrity but their friends do, and the celebrity promotes their movie through a twitter post, the friend can re-tweet it and their friends would then see the message. This is a helpful invention that will reach a much larger network of twitter followers. Ultimately, social media is a helpful tool to keep people connected with the new releases of movies, and it will continue to be a popular promotional tool for many years to come.
